What d’you get when you combine a FREE screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol, a drag queen, cheesy Christmas karaoke, promo reindeers and heaps of snow in London’s largest legal graffiti tunnel? A Christmas Miracle that’s what… namely, a Miracle on Leake Street!
This community event has been designed to put a smile on the face of even the most Scroogiest of Scrooges! Run by WeAreWaterloo and South Bank BID with proceeds going to the Waterloo Legal Advice Service, this festive get together will be held at Leake Street Arches on Tuesday 18th December from 6-9pm.
A world away from the traditional fireplace setting, guests will arrive to a costumed band of buskers, make their way through the urban snow (not a euphemism), past graffiti artists at work, to the centre of the tunnel. There they will find Drag Queen, Alexander Luttley, kicking off proceedings by leading a Christmas karaoke session. Vocal chords warmed up, guests can then pull up a chair and a blanket to take part in a screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol (with sing-a-long enhanced by local choirs!)
For those who just want to dip in and out of the screening, there will be plenty of other activities to enjoy…
House of Vans will be running an urban festive grotto and tombola.
Vaults Theatre will be opening their doors for a behind-the-scenes tour of their magical Sounds & Sorcery set. Outside their entrance, actors and comedians performing at next year’s VAULT festival will be taking to the stage to give an insight of what they’re working on.
Traders from Lower Marsh Market will move to the tunnel for the evening, to provide an enjoyable Christmas gift shopping experience, unlike any high street can offer.
Meanwhile Club will run a free Christmas Wreath making workshop as part of Lower Marsh Market’s Make Do & Mend Yourself wellbeing programme where you can deck the halls (well, your wreath!) to your personal preferences. But if you’d rather add a touch of festive sparkle to yourself, the In Your Dreams team, will be on hand with free glitter face and hair painting.
Draughts board games café will be taking to Leake Street to run a series of giant games outside while next door at Aures London, guests will be invited inside to experience their immersive sound system.
Providing an alternative to the standard Christmas fayre, Banh Bao Brothers will be serving up Vietnamese delights and running a Summer Roll masterclass so you can impress friends and family over the holidays. Newly opened Mamuska! will be introducing hearty Polish food (and vodka infused hot drinks!) to guests.
Those inspired by the surrounding street art can join a Graffiti masterclass at 26 Leake Street, which will be led by some of the local artists.
From Muppets and Drag Queens to Graffiti and Glitter; if you’re looking for an alternative (and free!) way to celebrate the festive season in London, come join us at Leake Street Arches!
